Preventative Health

Preventative health is any action taken to keep people healthy and to prevent & avoid risk of poor health, illness, injury and early death.

BGP offer a wide range of preventive measures including but not limited to…

Bowel Cancer Screening

Bowel cancer often develops without any symptoms and can grow in your bowel for years before spreading to other organs. People aged from 45 years are encouraged to participate in the National Bowel Cancer screening program. The test is simple to use and can be done in the comfort of your own home.

Healthy Heart check

A healthy heart check can be done with your GP to assess your risk of heart attack or stroke. Part of this assessment will include checking your blood pressure, cholesterol & blood sugar levels, along with questions about your current lifestyle and family history. If you are aged 45+ heart checks should be assessed every 2 years.

Skin Lesion check

A skin check is an examination of your skin which can be performed by your GP. These can include specific skin spots or a full body examination. Your GP will use their eyes as well as a magnifying glass to assess the characteristics of the lesion and give advice on treatments when required.
At times, the GP will recommend a removal of lesion and/or biopsy to further examine the area of concern. BGP has a team of nurses to assist the GPs in all minor theatre procedures.
Please note all GPs offer skin spot checks however not all GPs will conduct full body skin checks. If a full body check is required, your GP will refer internally to another GP who specialises in skin checks.
